CASPER, Wyo. — Casper native and former Natrona County High School standout Logan Wilson announced his retirement from the NFL this week, ending a professional football career that saw the linebacker become one of Wyoming’s most successful exports to the nation’s top football league.
Wilson, who played college football at the University of Wyoming before being drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2020, cited a desire to prioritize his long-term health and family as primary factors in his decision to step away from the game at age 29. In a social media post announcing his retirement, Wilson expressed gratitude to the teams, coaches and fans who supported him throughout his career.
During his time with the Bengals, Wilson established himself as a reliable and productive linebacker, earning recognition for his tackling ability and football intelligence. He recorded over 300 tackles during his NFL career and was a key contributor to Cincinnati’s defense, including during the team’s run to the Super Bowl in the 2021 season.
Before his NFL success, Wilson was a multisport athlete at Natrona County High School, where he excelled in football, wrestling and track. His athletic achievements earned him a scholarship to the University of Wyoming, where he developed into one of the most accomplished linebackers in program history, setting records for tackles and earning multiple all-conference honors.
Wilson’s retirement marks the end of an era for Wyoming football fans who followed his journey from local high school standout to NFL starter. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work and perseverance that has inspired young athletes across the state, particularly those from smaller communities who dream of reaching the highest levels of their sports.
In his retirement announcement, Wilson indicated he plans to remain involved in football in some capacity and will continue to call Wyoming home. He expressed hope that his story would encourage other Wyoming athletes to pursue their dreams, emphasizing that success at the highest levels is possible with dedication and the support of family and community.
