The University of Wyoming has unveiled its 2025 football schedule, which was officially released by the Mountain West Conference on Thursday, Casper Star-Tribune reports.

While the Cowboys’ opponents were already announced in December, the dates for the games were confirmed just recently.

The Cowboys will kick off the season on Thursday, Aug. 28, with an away game at Akron, marking a change from the originally scheduled date of Aug. 30. All remaining 11 games are set for Saturday contests.

Wyoming will continue its non-conference games with home matchups against Northern Iowa on Sept. 6 and Utah on Sept. 13. The game against Utah will be particularly notable as it will be the first time the Utes visit Laramie since 2010. In Week 4, the Cowboys will travel to Boulder to play Colorado on Sept. 20, marking the first meeting between the two teams since 2009.

Week 5 will bring Wyoming’s first bye week, followed by a home game against UNLV on Oct. 4. UNLV finished the 2024 season ranked No. 24 in the College Football Playoff rankings. Another home game is scheduled for Oct. 11 against San Jose State, before the Cowboys travel to face Air Force in Week 8.

The annual Border War game against Colorado State will take place on Oct. 25 in Laramie, ahead of the Rams’ move to the Pac-12 in 2026. It will be the earliest meeting between the two rivals since 2019.

Wyoming will face San Diego State on Nov. 1 and Fresno State on Nov. 15 on the road. The team returns home for its final home game of the season against Nevada on Nov. 22, before wrapping up the regular season at Hawaii on Nov. 29.

As with all Mountain West games, dates are subject to change as the conference’s broadcast partners (FOX and CBS) finalize their scheduling. Kickoff times will also be announced at a later date.

After a challenging 2024 season marked by injuries and depth issues, Wyoming is hopeful for a strong rebound in 2025. Key players returning include quarterback Kaden Anderson, senior tailback Harrison Waylee, senior tight end John Michael Gyllenborg, and four out of five offensive line starters. Defensively, the team has experienced significant turnover, with seven starters departing, but the addition of 10 transfers is expected to help address depth concerns. The team also welcomes back senior defensive linemen Sabastian Harsh and Ben Florentine.

On paper, Wyoming’s 2025 schedule seems favorable, with the Cowboys avoiding matchups against two-time defending Mountain West champions Boise State, as well as New Mexico and Utah State. While Utah is coming off a challenging season, Colorado will also face a rebuilding year, with key players like Heisman Trophy contender Travis Hunter departing for the NFL.

Wyoming’s spring practice is set to begin on March 25, with the annual Brown and Gold spring game scheduled for April 26. All Saturday practices during the spring will be open to the public.
