Former US Secret Service agent and conservative commentator Dan Bongino has been selected to serve as FBI Deputy Director, according to an announcement made by President Donald Trump, as per The Associated Press.

Trump shared the appointment on his Truth Social platform, praising Bongino’s “love and passion” for the country.

Bongino will serve under Kash Patel, who was recently sworn in as FBI Director. Patel has outlined plans to reshape the bureau, including relocating personnel and focusing on traditional crime-fighting responsibilities. The Deputy Director is traditionally the second-in-command, overseeing the bureau’s daily law enforcement operations.

Bongino, 49, served on the presidential details for Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush before transitioning into a media career.

Following Rush Limbaugh’s death in 2021, Bongino hosted a radio show in the same time slot.

Prior to joining the Secret Service, Bongino worked for the New York Police Department from 1997 to 1999. He began providing commentary on Fox News over a decade ago and hosted a Saturday night show on the network from 2021 to 2023. He currently hosts The Dan Bongino Show, a popular podcast.

Bongino ran unsuccessfully for a US Senate seat in Maryland in 2012 and for congressional seats in 2014 and 2016 in Maryland and Florida.
