The University of Wyoming men’s swimming and diving team is set to compete in the 2025 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championships, taking place at the University of Houston’s CRWC Natatorium from February 26 through March 1, 7220 Sports reports.
The highly anticipated event will be livestreamed on ESPN+, with live results also available for fans to follow along.
Coming off a challenging 2024 season, the Cowboys enter this year’s WAC Championships with a renewed focus. Last year, the team competed with heavy hearts following the tragic loss of three teammates—Charlie Clark, Carson Muir, and Luke Slabber—just a week before the event. Despite the adversity, Wyoming placed fourth overall, setting multiple school records and securing several podium finishes.
This season has been a rebuilding year for the Cowboys, finishing with a 2-4 overall record and going 1-1 in WAC duals. Head coach Dave Denniston has been impressed with his team’s perseverance and progress, emphasizing the squad’s determination despite a smaller roster.
“The men’s team this year had a completely different approach to the season, knowing we are a little low on numbers and trying to redevelop and build up coming off of last year,” Denniston said. “They’ve exceeded my expectations, so at this point, we’re just having fun. We have some athletes who are going to do great things.”
One of the standout swimmers to watch is senior captain Gavin Smith. A four-time All-WAC honoree, Smith holds school records in the 100-yard butterfly and multiple relay events. He earned several podium finishes at last year’s WAC Championships and will be looking to add a conference title to his achievements.
Other key contributors include Adam Pannell and Caleb Ozenne, both of whom have delivered strong performances throughout the season. Denniston expressed confidence in their abilities, saying:
“We’re looking forward to seeing them have fun, race hard, and give their best efforts.”
