Southeast Wyoming, including Laramie County, is experiencing seasonably warm temperatures with gusty winds before a shift to cooler, wetter conditions next week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Cheyenne.
Daytime highs are expected to reach the 50s and 60s this week, except for a brief cooldown on Wednesday, when temperatures will range from the upper 30s to upper 40s in most areas, with locations below 4,000 feet reaching around 50 degrees.
Windy conditions will develop Thursday into Friday, particularly in wind-prone areas such as Arlington, Bordeaux, and the Interstate 80 summit. While gusts may approach high wind criteria late Thursday and early Friday, confidence remains low, and no high wind watch has been issued.
The Nebraska Panhandle will also experience breezy northwest winds, while fire weather concerns arise along the Interstate 25 corridor from Cheyenne to Douglas and along Interstate 80 from Cheyenne to Kimball. However, near-surface winds are expected to remain light, preventing red flag conditions.
Mild and dry weather will persist through the weekend, though wind-prone areas may see strong gusts again on Sunday.
A cold front arriving early next week will bring a shift to colder temperatures and increased precipitation. Rain showers are expected Monday, transitioning to snow by Tuesday. While the heaviest snow accumulations will occur in the mountains, some accumulation is possible on the plains of Wyoming and the Nebraska Panhandle.
“The next shot at widespread and/or accumulating precipitation comes Monday into Tuesday with the upper trough and surface cold front,” the NWS in Cheyenne stated.
