The cost of long-term care services in Wyoming has fluctuated over the past year, with some care settings seeing price increases while others have decreased, according to the 2024 Cost of Care Survey by Genworth and CareScout, BusinessWire reports.

Despite these changes, overall costs in Wyoming remain in line with national trends.

The survey revealed that nationwide, the cost of long-term care services continues to rise, often outpacing inflation. Inflation and labor costs were cited as key drivers of these increases. In Wyoming, the annual median cost for different types of care showed a mixed trend:

  • Home health aide services saw a 13% decrease to $74,360 annually, ranking Wyoming 38th in cost among all states.
  • Assisted living communities experienced an 18% drop, bringing the annual median cost to $56,400, placing Wyoming 46th in affordability.
  • Nursing home care saw an increase, with semi-private rooms rising 30% to $118,990 annually and private rooms up 10% to $123,918.

While Wyoming’s costs for home health aide and assisted living services are below the national average, nursing home care costs in the state have risen, nearing national levels.

Genworth and CareScout emphasize the importance of planning for long-term care.

“We are committed to helping our customers in Wyoming create person-centered plans that reflect their values, preferences, and goals,” said Jamala Arland, President & CEO of Genworth US Life Insurance.

The Cost of Care Survey serves as a valuable resource for individuals exploring care options and financial planning. The data, available at CareScout.com, provides tools for estimating long-term care costs in specific regions. The platform also includes:

  • A Cost of Care Survey tool to calculate median costs by location.
  • National and state-ranked cost data for different care types.
  • A CareScout Quality Network, highlighting providers that meet high standards for person-centered care.
  • Guidance on aging care planning and options for funding long-term care.

The 2024 Cost of Care Survey, one of the most extensive studies of its kind, gathered data from over 140,000 long-term care providers across the U.S. More than 15,000 surveys were completed to track pricing trends for nursing homes, assisted living facilities, adult day health programs, and home care services.

While the survey provides a broad overview of costs, actual expenses may vary depending on specific locations and providers.
