Tesla CEO Elon Musk has accused left-wing billionaires, including George Soros and LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, of funding protests against his electric car company, FOX News reports.
Musk’s claims suggest that these individuals, along with other backers, are supporting demonstrations at Tesla dealerships and charging stations across the US He specifically pointed to ActBlue, a Democratic fundraising platform, as the source of financial backing for the protests.
On Sunday, Musk shared on his social media platform X that an investigation had revealed five ActBlue-funded groups were responsible for organizing the protests. These groups include Troublemakers, Disruption Project, Rise & Resist, Indivisible Project, and the Democratic Socialists of America. Musk also alleged that ActBlue has been involved in illegal activities, claiming that the platform had allowed foreign and illegal donations, violating campaign finance regulations. He further mentioned that several senior officials from ActBlue had resigned, though these claims have not been independently verified.
The protests and acts of vandalism against Tesla vehicles and charging stations, which have included incidents of damage and destruction, have occurred in various locations across the US The reasons behind these protests appear to be tied to Musk’s association with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a federal initiative aimed at reducing wasteful government spending. Some protesters have also expressed opposition to Musk’s actions and rhetoric, particularly regarding his support for conservative policies.
While the protests have been widespread, it remains unclear whether they are directly linked to the incidents of vandalism. For instance, a Tesla dealership in Oregon was targeted by gunshots, and there were reports of Molotov cocktails being thrown at a Tesla dealership in Salem. Additionally, several Tesla charging stations have been set on fire, and a man was arrested for allegedly defacing Tesla vehicles in Massachusetts.
Musk’s claims have sparked further controversy, with some lawmakers and political figures weighing in. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., expressed concerns that attacks on Musk may be politically motivated, noting that some politicians view criticizing him as beneficial for their public image.
Fox News Digital reached out to Soros and Hoffman for comment but did not receive a response.
