Heavy rains brought by the remnants of Hurricane Kirk have put France’s Seine-et-Marne region, located just east of Paris, on red alert for flooding, Bloomberg reports.
The storm, which weakened to a post-tropical cyclone, brought as much as 3.2 inches of rain to Montigny le Bretonneux, west of Paris, with up to 5.1 inches recorded in parts of the southern Alps. The storm also produced winds as strong as 120 75 miles per hour.
Kirk’s eastward track triggered red weather warnings in western Germany and Luxembourg on Thursday.
Across the Atlantic, Hurricane Milton slammed into Florida’s west coast near Tampa, bringing tree-snapping winds and heavy rain. The storm surge, a dangerous rise in sea level caused by the hurricane’s powerful winds, pushed a wall of water onshore, putting lives at risk in the densely populated region.
Authorities in both France and Florida are urging residents to take precautions and follow safety guidelines as the storms continue to impact their respective areas. Flood warnings remain in effect for the Seine-et-Marne region, while the full extent of damage caused by Hurricane Milton in Florida is still being assessed.
