Music icon Quincy Jones was laid to rest in a private ceremony in Los Angeles a week after his passing at the age of 91, The Associated Press reports.
While the location of the ceremony remains undisclosed, the family confirmed that the “intimate gathering included Mr. Jones’ seven children, his brother, two sisters, and immediate family members.”
The 28-time Grammy winner, whose musical legacy spans seven decades, was remembered for his groundbreaking work as a producer, arranger, and composer. From producing Michael Jackson’s iconic “Thriller” album to writing prize-winning film scores and collaborating with legends like Frank Sinatra and Ray Charles, Jones left an undeniable mark on the music industry.
The family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of condolences and tributes from fans and fellow musicians worldwide. “We remain enormously grateful for the outpouring of condolences and tributes from his friends and fans from around the world,” the family shared in a statement to The Associated Press. They added that details for a larger, more public memorial celebration of Mr. Jones’ life will be announced soon.
Following his passing on November 3 at his Bel Air home, Jones was mourned by some of the biggest names in media and politics. “Saturday Night Live,” which Jones once hosted, paid tribute to him with a memorial photo in a quiet moment of the show.
In lieu of flowers, Jones’ family requests donations to the Jazz Foundation of America.
