The Wyoming Cancer Coalition held a ‘Day of Hope’ at the Wyoming State Capitol on Wednesday, focusing on improving cancer care and raising awareness about prevention and early detection efforts across the state, Wyoming News Now reports.

During the event, Star Jones from the Wyoming Department of Health emphasized that cancer affects everyone in some way, making it crucial to work together in fighting the disease. She highlighted the importance of regular screenings and lifestyle choices—such as maintaining a healthy diet, staying active, and avoiding tobacco and nicotine—to reduce cancer risks.

“Being able to offer some of that information to people who may not know that that is a risk for cancer, that’s very important to us,” said Jones.

Governor Mark Gordon attended the event, sharing his personal experiences with cancer and reaffirming his commitment to improving cancer care and healthcare access for Wyoming residents.

“I am dedicated to consistently improving the health care opportunities for the people of Wyoming,” Governor Gordon stated.

With cancer affecting one in two men and one in three women, the governor stressed the importance of ensuring that Wyoming residents have access to vital cancer screenings and treatment services.

Jones urged the public to prioritize regular cancer screenings, reassuring attendees that testing is widely available and often painless.

“Go get your cancer screening, talk to your doctor. There are options out there, there are different tests that you can do. It’s not scary, it doesn’t hurt,” she said.

For those without health insurance, Wyoming offers free screening programs to ensure everyone has access to early detection services.
