Norway Reaffirms Support for US Navy After Fuel Supplier Threatens Boycott Over Ukraine Tensions

The Norwegian government has clarified that it will continue providing fuel to US Navy ships, following a threat from a private Norwegian marine fuel supplier to boycott the US military, Fox News reports.
The threat stemmed from concerns over deteriorating US-Ukraine relations and a recent heated exchange between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky.
Norway’s Defense Minister Tore Sandvik issued a statement Sunday reassuring that support for US Navy vessels remains consistent with Norwegian government policy, according to a report from Reuters.
“We have seen reports raising concerns about support for US Navy vessels in Norway. This is not in line with the Norwegian government’s policy,” Sandvik stated.
The statement comes after Haltbakk Bunkers, a privately held Norwegian fuel supplier, publicly threatened to boycott the US Navy in response to a contentious Oval Office exchange on Friday among Trump, Zelensky, and Vice President JD Vance.
The company’s CEO, Gunnar Gran, confirmed to the Norwegian newspaper VG that he had decided not to supply the US military. However, Haltbakk Bunkers acknowledged that the boycott would only have a “symbolic” impact as the company does not have a fixed contract with the US government.
The company’s threat was triggered by a heated exchange in the Oval Office in which Vice President Vance accused Zelensky of being “disrespectful” to Trump. Trump also joined the argument after Zelenskyy claimed that the US would feel the war “in the future,” a sentiment the American leader did not appreciate.
Despite these concerns, Norway, a NATO ally, has made it clear that it will not join in any threats to cut off support for the US military.
“American forces will continue to receive the supply and support they require from Norway,” Sandvik affirmed.
