The University of Wyoming’s track and field program received major recognition as senior thrower Daniel Reynolds and assistant coach Paul Barrett were named Men’s Field Athlete of the Year and Men’s Assistant Coach of the Year for the Mountain Region, respectively, News Letter Journal reports.
The honors were announced by the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Reynolds secured the award after an outstanding indoor season, highlighted by his victory in the NCAA weight throw championship, where he set a meet record of 25.08 meters. He also dominated at the Mountain West Indoor Championships, sweeping the throws events and tying for the No. 2 all-time collegiate mark in the weight throw.
Barrett, who has served as Wyoming’s throwing and strength coach for 26 years, played a pivotal role in Reynolds’ success. Under his guidance, Wyoming throwers scored 32 points at the Mountain West Indoor Championships, securing titles in both the weight throw and shot put.
The recognition highlights Wyoming’s continued strength in field events and the impact of dedicated coaching.
