The public will have the opportunity to pay their respects to former US Sen. Alan Simpson, who will lie in state at the Wyoming State Capitol rotunda on March 27 and 28, Oil City News reports.
A military processional will accompany Simpson’s casket to the Wyoming State Capitol on Thursday, March 27, arriving at approximately 8:45 a.m. The procession will travel from 26th Street, between the Herschler buildings, through the north doors of the Capitol. Upon arrival, Wyoming Supreme Court Chief Justice Kate Fox will deliver brief remarks.
The Capitol will remain open until 8 p.m. on Thursday for public visitation and will reopen at 7 a.m. on Friday, March 28.
At 2 p.m. Friday, a military procession will once again accompany Simpson’s casket, followed by a short prayer service conducted by Rev. Christian Paul Basel, Rector of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church of Cheyenne. Additionally, Simpson’s brother, Dr. Peter K. Simpson, and Wyoming Gov. Mark Gordon will deliver remarks in his honor.
In addition to the Capitol services, the Simpson family will host a public celebration of life at the University of Wyoming’s Arena Auditorium at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 29. This event is free and open to the public, offering another opportunity to reflect on Simpson’s legacy and contributions to Wyoming and the nation.
