Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) is set to debut a new Construction Technology program at its Douglas Campus starting in the Fall 2025 semester, Wyoming News Now reports.

The initiative is designed to address a growing demand for skilled labor in Converse County and aims to support the region’s expanding housing and infrastructure needs.

To mark the program’s official launch, EWC will host a kickoff event on Tuesday, April 29, at 5 p.m. at the Douglas Campus, located at 800 S. Wind River Drive. The event will feature college officials, construction industry partners, and community supporters, and will include a networking hour and dinner. Local residents and business owners are encouraged to attend to learn more about how they can get involved or benefit from the program.

The new program comes in response to a persistent housing shortage in Converse County, largely driven by a recent influx of workers in the oil, gas, and renewable energy sectors. One key barrier to meeting this housing demand has been a shortage of skilled tradespeople. EWC’s Construction Technology program is intended to help close that gap by training students in areas such as materials handling, construction equipment operation, architectural planning, engineering graphics, surveying, electrical systems, and residential plumbing.

College administrators believe the program will not only help ease the housing crisis but also serve as a long-term investment in the regional workforce. By equipping students with industry-recognized credentials and practical skills, EWC aims to support local business growth and provide opportunities for high-quality employment in construction and related fields.
