Wyoming Cowboys Wrap Up Spring Practice with Spring Game Set for Saturday.

The Wyoming Cowboy football team entered the final stretch of spring practice on Tuesday, completing its 13th session of the spring inside War Memorial Stadium. The spring season will culminate in the annual Spring Game, scheduled for this Saturday at noon at “The War.” The event is free and additional details will be released later this week.

Head Coach Jay Sawvel commented on the team’s progress following Tuesday’s workout, noting a slow start but a strong finish to the day.

“I thought we had a good finish to today. I thought we were a little flat and we got everyone together and the last hour of practice was good,” Sawvel said. “We have had a good spring and today we needed a pick me up and we got that. We need to play in front of fans, we need to feel it like a gameday all the way through and we need a final exam in front of fans, and we will be ready to go.”

The Cowboys held a hybrid scrimmage during their 12th practice last Saturday in the Indoor Practice Facility, featuring approximately 90 minutes of live play.

“It was good to get so much live work in and have some scripted situations,” Sawvel noted. “We got some true goal line work… We wanted to have a blitz period… it is live because the offense gets the ball out and you have to make that tackle and as an offensive player you have to break a tackle.”

Special teams will feature a pair of returning players. Veteran long snapper Carson York enters his final season for the Brown and Gold with 38 career games under his belt. On the kicking side, sophomore Erik Sandvik will aim to fill the role vacated by record-setting kicker John Hoyland, who graduated as Wyoming’s all-time leading scorer. Sandvik, who has been with the program for three years, has demonstrated impressive range in practice, connecting on kicks from up to 61 yards.

Season ticket renewals for the 2025 football season are now open. The renewal deadline is Friday, April 4. Fans can renew by phone, in person at the Wyoming Athletics Ticket Office, or online at gowyo.com/tickets. Deposits for new season tickets are also being accepted.
