Ukraine Launches Drone Attack on Moscow, Russia Claims Interception

Russia’s air defense systems intercepted and destroyed four Ukrainian drones targeting Moscow early Monday morning, according to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, as per Reuters.
Preliminary reports indicate that there were no casualties or damage from falling debris.
“Russia’s air defence units destroyed four Ukrainian drones flying towards Moscow,” Sobyanin stated on the Telegram messaging app.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced that a total of 26 Ukrainian drones were destroyed overnight across Russian territory. In addition to the drones aimed at Moscow, 17 were reportedly intercepted over the Bryansk region and five over the Kaluga region.
The governors of both the Kaluga region, bordering the Moscow region to its northeast, and the Bryansk region, which shares a border with Ukraine, confirmed on social media that no injuries or damage had been reported in their respective areas.
Russia’s aviation watchdog, Rosaviatsia, temporarily suspended flights at Domodedovo Airport, one of Moscow’s major airports, for approximately 1.5 hours overnight to ensure air safety during the aerial activity.
The reported drone attack comes after Russian President Vladimir Putin declared a three-day ceasefire from May 8-10 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory in World War Two. This move was interpreted as a signal of Russia’s continued interest in peace negotiations.
