Authorities continue to investigate the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf, a Memorial High School student, during a track meet at Kuykendall Stadium on April 2. Frisco Independent School District confirmed this week that it possesses surveillance video of the incident but will not be publicly releasing the footage.
The deadly altercation unfolded during a rain delay at the district championship meet. Karmelo Anthony, 17, a student from Centennial High School, has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the stabbing.
According to an arrest report, the confrontation began when Metcalf asked Anthony to move out of Memorial High School’s team tent. A witness told police that Anthony responded by grabbing his bag and saying, “Touch me and see what happens.” When Metcalf stood up and pushed him, Anthony allegedly pulled a knife from his bag and stabbed Metcalf in the chest.
The witness said Anthony fled the scene following the stabbing. Metcalf died moments later in the arms of his twin brother.
Anthony was arrested at the stadium and later charged with murder. His legal team claims he acted in self-defense, citing that Metcalf pushed him prior to the stabbing. Initially held on a $1 million bond, Anthony’s bond was recently reduced to $250,000. He is now under house arrest with an ankle monitor and may only leave home with a judge’s approval.
