Tech mogul Elon Musk has walked back his recent public criticisms of U.S. President Donald Trump, acknowledging that some of his comments went too far.

“I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week,” Musk wrote early Wednesday on X, the social media platform he owns. “They went too far.”

Musk did not specify which remarks he was referring to, but his reversal follows a string of sharp and controversial posts attacking Trump — including an unverified claim that the Trump administration concealed Jeffrey Epstein-related files to shield the president from scrutiny.

The fallout marks a dramatic shift in Musk’s relationship with Trump. Once a key supporter, Musk played a prominent role in backing Trump’s re-election efforts and even served briefly as head of the now-defunct Department of Government Efficiency. Their relationship soured spectacularly last week over Trump’s proposed “One Big, Beautiful Bill” — a sweeping package of tax cuts and spending increases that Musk slammed as a “disgusting abomination.”

Following the split, Musk launched a barrage of social media attacks, questioning Trump’s leadership, criticizing Republican fiscal policies, and suggesting he had played a decisive role in Trump’s election victory. At one point, Musk even expressed support for Trump’s impeachment.

His most explosive allegation was that Trump was implicated in the unreleased Epstein files — a claim the White House dismissed as “an unfortunate episode.”

Trump responded in kind, warning that Musk’s businesses — including Tesla and SpaceX — could face “serious consequences,” including the cancellation of federal contracts and subsidies. Speaking with NBC News on Saturday, Trump said he had “no intention of speaking” with Musk again and declared their relationship finished.

However, in a softer tone days later, Trump told reporters the two had “a great relationship” in the past and added, “I wish him well.”
