Help is on the way for Wyomingites recovering from wildfires. Gov. Mark Gordon announced a free, 90-minute Wildfire Recovery Webinar hosted by the state’s Grants Management Office at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8.

The session is designed for landowners, homeowners, business owners, and nonprofits dealing with fire damage, and it brings state and federal experts into one virtual room to explain what aid is available, how to find the right grants, and how to apply. It’s interactive, so participants can ask questions directly to the people who run the programs.

Gordon said the webinar is meant to give property owners a clear picture of current funding options — what’s new, what’s gone, and what still exists — especially after federal policy shifts. He stressed that some money is available even without a formal disaster declaration and urged anyone with fire impacts to tune in. State Forester Kelly Norris called it a full-cycle briefing, from pre-planning and prevention to post-fire recovery, tailored specifically to Wyoming’s conditions.

Alongside the webinar, the Grants Management Office has published a comprehensive Wildfire Recovery Resources list to help people navigate assistance long after the call ends. Bob Budd of the Wyoming Wildlife and Natural Resource Trust warned that invasive grasses and encroaching conifers are ratcheting up fire risk across the state, threatening everything from native rangelands to the broader economy — another reason to move quickly on prevention and recovery funding.

Registration is open now for the Wildfire Recovery Webinar.
