Cheyenne comedy fans have a chance to laugh for a cause this week when the “Comedy That Cares” series kicks off Friday at The Metropolitan Downtown. The show will feature L.A.-based comic Cody Woods and Cheyenne native Dominic Syracuse, with proceeds supporting the Unaccompanied Students Initiative.

The nonprofit provides stable alternatives for students ages 16 to 20 living in unsafe or temporary situations—cars, parks, shelters, motels, or couch surfing.

Syracuse, who left Cheyenne to pursue music and comedy, brings more than stage experience to the event. He’s a certified behavioral specialist with a background in addiction and recovery that informs his comedic approach. He opened for Bob Saget on the late comedian’s final tour before Saget’s death in 2021.

Woods won the 2024 World Series of Comedy against 500 other comedians and has been featured on Comedy Central, Sirius XM, and Hulu. His act blends smart social commentary with impressions and improvisation.

Syracuse said the series will rotate between Cheyenne and Casper, with each show benefiting a different local nonprofit.

Friday’s show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are available online.
