Tesla to Recall 870 Imported Model X EVs in China Over Safety Concerns

Tesla Motors has announced a recall of 870 imported Model X electric vehicles in China, set to begin on October 8, Benzinga reports, citing the country’s watchdog, the State Administration for Market Regulation.

The recall affects Model X vehicles produced between March 16, 2016, and July 31, 2016, and follows a previous recall issued in November 2020.

The concern centers around roof trim panels that may lack sufficient primer, potentially leading to detachment over time and posing a safety risk.

Under the recall, the company will inspect the affected vehicles and conduct a tension test on the roof trim panels. If the panels do not pass the test, they will be replaced and reinstalled with an appropriate application of primer at no cost to the owners.

Last week, Tesla also recalled over 9,000 Model X vehicles in the US for similar issues with roof trim pieces that could separate and create hazards for other drivers, impacting some vehicles from the 2016 model year.
