Brazilian President Lula to Undergo Further Procedure Following Brain Bleed Surgery

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will undergo an additional medical procedure on Thursday, following emergency surgery on Tuesday to address a brain bleed, CNN reports.
The 79-year-old president remains in the intensive care unit of Sao Paulo’s Sírio-Libanês Hospital.
According to a statement released by the hospital, doctors will perform an endovascular procedure Thursday morning as part of Lula’s “therapy program.” His personal physician, Roberto Kalil, clarified to Reuters that this procedure, involving catheterization of the meninges artery, is a precautionary measure.
“When a hematoma is drained, there is a slight chance that the small arteries in the meninges could cause a minor bleed in the future,” Kalil explained. He previously emphasized that Lula did not suffer any brain injury; the bleeding was outside the brain and completely drained during Tuesday’s surgery.
The hospital’s statement reported that Lula is recovering well, exhibiting no complications. He reportedly engaged in physiotherapy, walked, and received family visits. He remains under close medical supervision.
Lula’s recent health issues stem from a fall at his home in late October, resulting in head trauma. While recovering, he experienced worsening headaches, leading to Monday’s emergency surgery.
