NYC Mayor Adams Opts for Independent Bid in NYC Mayoral Race, Shunning Democratic Primary

In a surprising move, New York City Mayor Eric Adams has announced he will seek reelection as an independent, bypassing the Democratic primary, Politico reports.
The decision potentially provides Adams with more time to recover from the legal battles that have plagued his administration.
“I’m in the race to the end. I’m not running on the Democratic line,” Adams told Politico. “It’s just not realistic to turn around my numbers and to run a good campaign (from) where we are right now.”
Adams’ decision comes after a tumultuous period, marked by his historic indictment on federal charges, making him the first New York City mayor in modern history to face such accusations.
However, in a significant development, a federal judge permanently dismissed the criminal case against the mayor on Wednesday, providing a boost as he pivots towards an independent campaign.
