Gasoline prices in Wyoming rose modestly over the past week, but remain below both last month’s and last year’s averages, according to data released Monday by GasBuddy, K2 Radio reports.
The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in the state now stands at $3.06, up 3.6 cents from the previous week. Despite the weekly increase, prices are still 7.6 cents lower than one month ago and 20.2 cents lower than this time last year.
GasBuddy’s survey of 494 gas stations across Wyoming showed a wide range in pricing, with the cheapest fuel available at $2.67 per gallon and the highest priced at $3.89 — a spread of $1.22.
Nationally, gas prices also experienced a slight uptick. The average price of regular gasoline in the US rose 1.1 cents to $3.08 per gallon. The national average is 9.5 cents lower than a month ago and 32.7 cents lower than the same period in 2023.
Diesel prices followed a similar pattern, increasing 4.0 cents to $3.49 per gallon on average across the country.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, attributed the recent rise in fuel prices to growing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
“With Israel and Iran trading attacks, oil prices have surged to multi-month highs—setting the stage for additional price hikes at gas pumps across the country,” he said.
De Haan warned that if the conflict escalates, gas prices could rise by 10 to 20 cents, while diesel may see increases of 15 to 25 cents in the near term.
Compared to nearby regions, gas prices in Wyoming are competitive. Fort Collins, Colorado, reported an average of $2.96 per gallon; Ogden, Utah, stood at $3.16; and Billings, Montana, also averaged $3.16 per gallon.
Historical data shows gas prices have varied widely over the past decade. On June 16, 2023, the average in Wyoming was $3.27, while in 2022, amid global energy market disruptions, it soared to $4.79 per gallon.
