A 69-year-old man from Cody, Wyoming, died in a two-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck east of Shoshoni, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, KGAB AM 650 reports.
The incident occurred around 1:03 p.m. on Monday, June 9, near milepost 96.5 on US Highways 20/26, approximately three miles outside the city limits.
The crash summary identifies the man as Kent McDonough Richards, who was driving a Ford F-150 westbound. According to investigators, Richards was navigating a curve when his vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane and struck the driver’s side of an oncoming Peterbilt semi-truck.
Following the collision, the Ford reportedly spun and rolled backward off the westbound shoulder before coming to rest.
Richards was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash but did not survive his injuries. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.
Authorities noted that the road was dry and weather conditions were clear when the crash occurred. No possible contributing factors were listed in the initial report.
Richards is the 42nd reported fatality on Wyoming roads this year.
According to his obituary, Richards was a Navy veteran and lifelong craftsman with a passion for music and fishing. He is remembered by family and friends for his dry wit, his deep affection for loved ones, and his strong sense of loyalty and care.
A celebration of life is scheduled to take place at his home on Sunday, June 15.
