Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr announced Monday that he has raised an additional $1.25 million for his 2026 gubernatorial campaign, bringing his reported statewide fundraising total to nearly $3.5 million since declaring his candidacy in November.

The latest campaign finance period covers the months from February 1 to June 30. Carr had previously collected $2.2 million before pausing fundraising during the legislative session earlier this year. While campaign expenditures were not disclosed, the combined haul positions him as a leading Republican contender ahead of potential rivals.

Carr is currently the only major GOP candidate officially in the race. Now that he has secured a strong financial advantage, the field may tighten as heavyweights like Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger are expected to announce their campaigns soon. Carr has aligned himself with incumbent Governor Brian Kemp and emphasized his readiness to deliver conservative leadership and oversee a robust campaign focused on economic growth and safety.

On the Democratic side, former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and State Senator Jason Esteves have each reported raising around $1.1 million early on, showing solid initial support, although they trail Carr’s fundraising for the moment. Democrats are aiming to capitalize on their recent electoral momentum, with figures like President Biden and Senators Warnock and Ossoff winning statewide.

As Georgia gears up for what may become one of the most competitive gubernatorial races in recent history, Carr’s early fundraising success highlights the importance of campaign finance in shaping the primary landscape.
