Trump and NATO Chief Rutte Announce Major Arms Package, Set 50-Day Peace Deadline for Russia’s Putin

President Donald Trump and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte declared a new package of controversial military support for Ukraine on Monday, setting a 50-day deadline for Russian President Vladimir Putin to agree to a peace settlement on the conflict.
Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump said the plan involves the US will send Patriot missile systems and other weapons to such NATO nations including Germany, Finland, and Denmark, which are supposed to send the package to Kiev.
“This is really big,” Rutte said.
Trump said that if a peace agreement is not reached within 50 days, Washington would impose new and severe tariffs and sanctions.
“We’re going to be doing 100 percent tariffs and very strong sanctions if we don’t make a deal,” he said, saying that he would be “very unhappy” in relation to Putin.
Trump also said stressed that the U.S. would produce the weapons and the funding would be the responsibility of the EU.
“We’re helping Ukraine, but the beautiful thing is we’re doing it where much of the money is being paid by other countries,” Trump said.
