Marius Borg Hoiby, the 28-year-old son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit and stepson of Crown Prince Haakon, has been formally charged with multiple serious crimes, including rape, domestic violence and assault, following a yearlong investigation.
Oslo prosecutors announced on Monday that Hoiby faces 32 criminal counts in total, among them one charge of rape with intercourse and three without, some allegedly filmed on his phone. If convicted on the most serious counts, he could face up to 10 years in prison.
Hoiby denies the rape and domestic violence allegations but plans to plead guilty to some lesser charges, according to his lawyer, Petar Sekulic.
The trial is expected to begin in mid-January and last about six weeks.
Hoiby, who does not hold a royal title and is outside the line of succession, will not receive special treatment, prosecutors stressed.
Past incidents
Police previously detained Hoiby for one week in November 2023 as part of the investigation. Prosecutors have identified one victim publicly — influencer Nora Haukland, with whom he had a relationship.
Authorities say the violence against her included hitting her in the face, choking, kicking, and grabbing her forcefully. Hoiby admitted at the time to causing bodily harm while under the influence of cocaine and alcohol, also acknowledging damage to her apartment.
Media reports link Hoiby to time spent with gang members, Hells Angels bikers, and Oslo’s Albanian mafia. He was also arrested in 2017 for cocaine use at a music festival.
