YouTube says it has resolved a massive outage that left hundreds of thousands of users unable to stream videos or access its services worldwide early Thursday.
“This issue has been fixed – you should now be able to play videos on YouTube, YouTube Music, and YouTube TV!” the platform said in a post on X, assuring users the problem had been resolved.
The streaming disruption, which lasted about an hour, began just before 7 a.m. local time in East Asia (23:00 GMT Wednesday). According to outage-tracking site Downdetector, reports quickly poured in from across the globe, from Asia and Europe to North and South America.
Users described being unable to load videos, open channels, or access the app entirely. The highest concentration of reports came from the United States, with nearly 400,000 complaints at the peak of the outage. Japan, Brazil, and the UK were also among the most affected regions.
While YouTube confirmed that normal service has resumed, the company has not explained the cause of the failure. The outage also impacted YouTube Music and YouTube TV, though those disruptions were less widespread, peaking at fewer than 5,000 reports in the US.
