The man accused of fatally burning Ugandan Olympian Rebecca Cheptegei has also died, Sky News reports.

Rebecca Cheptegei succumbed to severe injuries last Thursday after an alleged dispute over land in Kenya. Her former partner and attacker, Dickson Ndiema, passed away on Monday night in the intensive care unit of Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, the same facility where Cheptegei was treated.

Rebecca Cheptegei sustained burns to 80% of her body after an altercation that reportedly led Ndiema to buy a can of petrol, pour it on her, and set her on fire. Ndiema himself suffered over 30% burns during the incident.

Both Cheptegei and Ndiema were rushed to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, where extensive medical efforts were made to save their lives. Despite receiving treatment, the severity of their burns ultimately proved fatal for both victims.
