A star-studded lineup and generous donors have propelled FireAid, the massive benefit concert held last week to support those impacted by the devastating Los Angeles-area wildfires, to a projected fundraising total exceeding $100 million, The Associated Press reports.

The six-hour concert, streamed on 28 broadcasting and online platforms, drew over 50 million viewers, contributing significantly to the overall fundraising effort. The impressive figure includes ticket sales, sponsorships, merchandise revenue, and public donations, including a notable $1 million contribution from the band U2.

The momentum continued at the Grammy Awards three nights later, where host Trevor Noah urged viewers to donate and a QR code was displayed on screens, resulting in nearly $9 million in additional funds raised. The Recording Academy and MusiCares also generated over $24 million for various charitable activities throughout Grammy weekend.

FireAid boasted performances from a diverse range of Southern California artists, including Billie Eilish, Katy Perry, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. More than 30 artists performed across two Los Angeles venues, the Intuit Dome and the Kia Forum.

A key factor in the fundraising success was the pledge by L.A. Clippers owner Steve Ballmer and his wife, Connie, to match every dollar raised during the concert. This matched amount is included in the $100 million projection. Furthermore, the Clippers generously offset the costs associated with organizing and staging the event.
