A Wyoming family continues to see hopeful progress in the recovery of their two-year-old son, Christian, after a devastating car accident in February, Wyoming News Now reports.

The child, affectionately known as “Little Christian,” was critically injured when the family’s minivan was t-boned by a snowplow. His father, Wyoming State Trooper Parker Smith, was among the emergency responders called to the scene.

Christian sustained severe injuries, including a broken jaw, broken ribs, a punctured lung, and significant head trauma that resulted in a stroke, leaving the left side of his body immobilized. He was rushed to the Children’s Hospital in Denver, where he was placed in the ICU.

As of Thursday, Christian has been moved out of intensive care and onto a therapy floor, where he is undergoing rehabilitation to regain his ability to eat, drink, and walk. Doctors estimate that if his recovery continues on track, he could be ready to return home in about two weeks.

State Representative Scott Smith, Trooper Smith’s brother, expressed deep gratitude for the community’s support.

“The outpouring of prayers and encouragement has meant the world to us,” he said. “We are believing in a full recovery for Christian, and every day he is making huge strides.”

The Wyoming Highway Patrol Association launched a GoFundMe campaign to help the family stay by Christian’s side throughout his hospitalization. In addition to financial donations, friends and neighbors have stepped in to assist with daily tasks, including caring for the family’s animals and completing a kitchen remodel that Trooper Smith had started before the accident.
