The University of Wyoming women’s golf team has gotten off to a strong start at the Cowgirl Classic being held at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Course in Arizona.

After battling through chilly, windy conditions on Wednesday, Wyoming currently sits in sixth place with a score of +35 (302-309—611) at the par-72, 6,191-yard course.

Sophie Spiva, a junior from Casper, has been a standout for the Cowgirls, currently tied for 13th place overall with a score of +5 (74-75—149) as she heads into the final round on Thursday.

Kyla Wilde, a senior from Phoenix, had an impressive start, sitting at -5 before a triple bogey on No. 14 slowed her momentum. Wilde finished the first round with an even-par 72, followed by an 81 in the second round, placing her in a tie for 25th place with teammate Grace Dunkleberger, who is competing as an individual. Both players have a score of +9 (72-81—153).

Meghan Vogt and Kira Reisner are also within the top 35, with scores of +10 (78-76—154) and +11 (78-77—155), respectively.
