Donald Trump will be named Time magazine’s Person of the Year for 2024, marking his second time receiving the honor, a source familiar with the matter told CNN.

The announcement, scheduled for Thursday, will be followed by Trump ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange to celebrate.

This year’s selection recognizes Trump’s significant influence on global affairs, a designation Time bestows annually on the individual or group deemed to have had the greatest impact, “for good or for ill.” Trump sat for a lengthy interview with the magazine last month.

The choice echoes Time’s 2016 selection of Trump following his surprising presidential victory. This time, the award caps a remarkable political comeback and resurgence that has the potential to significantly reshape American politics.

Accoridng to the report, despite Time’s declining circulation, the Person of the Year title remains a highly coveted cultural distinction.

Despite his frequent criticisms of the media, Trump has consistently granted access to established news outlets, including Time. He granted an extensive interview to the magazine at his Palm Beach club earlier this year, while Vice President Kamala Harris declined a similar opportunity.

The Person of the Year title has historically been bestowed upon a diverse range of figures, including heads of state, activists, entrepreneurs, and authoritarian leaders. Every US president since Franklin D. Roosevelt, except Gerald Ford, has been named at least once. President Biden and Harris shared the honor in 2020.

Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, is expected to attend Thursday’s event, marking a rare public appearance for the former senior advisor.
