Five teenagers who escaped from a juvenile facility in Wyoming were taken into custody early Sunday morning after a high-speed pursuit and multi-agency search in western Nebraska, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.
The teens, aged 14 to 17, were first reported missing from a juvenile facility in Wyoming and were suspected of traveling through Nebraska in a stolen vehicle. Authorities later learned the group had allegedly stolen a second vehicle in North Platte and were driving both eastbound on Interstate 80.
At approximately 4:15 a.m., a Nebraska state trooper spotted the two vehicles — a Dodge Durango and a Chevrolet Tahoe — traveling at speeds over 100 miles per hour near Gothenburg. The trooper attempted a traffic stop, but both vehicles exited the interstate at the Cozad interchange and continued south on Highway 21, at times driving in the wrong lane.
The Dodge Durango eventually left the road and came to a stop in a ditch near the intersection of Highways 21 and 23. Two teens exited and fled on foot into a nearby field. The Tahoe continued for several more miles before stopping, and its three occupants also ran from the scene.
Troopers, assisted by deputies from Dawson, Frontier, and Gosper County Sheriff’s Offices, conducted a search of the area. After several hours, all five teens were located and taken into custody without further incident. They were transferred to the custody of probation officials.
The Nebraska State Patrol is continuing its investigation, and additional details regarding the escape and any potential charges have not been released.
