A Cheyenne man who was the subject of a hours-long manhunt following an early morning shooting Thursday is in custody and facing an attempted first-degree murder charge. Adrian Maggos, 27, who also uses the alias Adrian Chapple, was taken into custody without incident by early afternoon after he returned to the shooting scene and planned to turn himself in.

The shooting was reported at about 4:15 a.m. in the 100 block of East Third Avenue, a tree-lined street in a central Cheyenne neighborhood. According to the Cheyenne Police Department, a verbal dispute occurred outside a residence on the sidewalk. The argument escalated, and the victim was shot by Maggos, who then fled on foot. The victim sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital; his condition has not been updated.

Dozens of police and sheriff’s office vehicles cordoned off the area between Central and Warren avenues. A K-9 team and drones were deployed to search for Maggos, and surveillance video from nearby homes was reviewed. Police warned residents that Maggos was “believed to be armed.” By late morning, the immediate scene had been cleared.

“By early afternoon, detectives learned that Maggos had returned to the scene on Third Avenue and was planning to turn himself in,” the agency reported. Members of the Crime Prevention Team and a U.S. Marshals Service Task Force officer located Maggos at the residence and took him into custody without incident. Detectives are now interviewing him.

The shooting is not the first time Maggos has faced serious violence charges. In August 2022, he was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault and battery. According to court documents, he allegedly entered his ex-girlfriend’s home while she and her boyfriend were sleeping and attacked the boyfriend using brass knuckles with spikes. The victim reported being struck multiple times in the face, head, and chest, and placed in a chokehold. Officers documented a 1-inch gash on the victim’s forehead, a bloody mouth, a developing black eye, and a swollen right hand believed to be broken. Maggos was found not guilty following a two-day jury trial in February 2023.

Police said Thursday’s shooting appears to be an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation is ongoing.
